Pet-Pro Diet - Is it Safe and Nutritious?

The National Research recommended requirements for sugar gliders has not been released. Pet-Pro products makes no warranty, expressed or, as to the result that may be derived from the use of this product. Pet-Pro's website does not list any national sugar glider breeding standards. The amount of time required to achieve any quality result using this product is unknown. The amount of money charged for this product also is unknown. There is also no provision for any return on investment.

Pet-Pro's claim to have the best diet for sugar gliders. Their website: https://www.sugargliderinfo.org/collections/supplies  indicates the sugar glider's need for meat, a vegetable and water. The combination of these three necessities should provide the animal with all of its nutritional needs. However, the combination of a dry pellet diet, which lack the vitamins and minerals essential to support the animal's health, and a commercially available dry food, which contain inadequate amounts of protein and carbohydrate, does not meet the requirements as declared by the US federal government.

The ingredients list on the back of the Pet-Pro product labels does not reveal the manufacturer's source of protein, carbohydrate or zinc sulfate. Neither does it reveal whether the dry pellet diet provided was a recipe or if it was the commercially available Whole Dry Dried Mosaic (WTM). None of the ingredients, including the purported carbo or the zinc sulfate, has been proven in studies to be safe for long term use. That the pet-pro products makes no claim about the effects which may be derived from the use of the product, and that the whole dried mixtures, containing a large amount of protein and fat and very little moisture, is not nutritionally sufficient for a glider, make these three ingredients of concern.

Let's look at the claims made about the protein content in the Pet-Pro product. The ingredient label for the product states the ingredient to be "whey". Is the whey included in the vitamins and mineral mix? Probably not, as it is a by-product of the manufacturing process. A vitamin e supplement is also listed on the ingredients list, but despite what the manufacturers claim, the vitamin e supplement is not being used in the diets for sugar gliders. There are a lot of reports from people who have fed their pet parrots or macaws on the Pet-Pro product containing a variety of different fats, oils and extracts. Their report was all positive, except for one detail: the amount of protein that was present in the diet had to be "at least" once the bird was cooked! What is the meaning of "at least"? How can anyone expect their pets to eat anything other than food specially formulated for them?

This is enough information to make you seriously question the reliability of any product that claims to be a healthy solution to a pet's nutrition problems. Is it not better to feed your animals a special diet that is formulated especially for them, composed of ingredients that are formulated to provide the correct nutrition necessary for good health, growth, and vitality? Instead of asking "Is Pet-Pro healthy", why not ask "are Pet-Pro ingredients safe and nutritious"?
